Granny Ds is by far my favorite place to go for breakfast because of their amazing pancakes. Their assortment of pancake flavors and omelet choices, along with the fact that everything you get for breakfast is at least double the size of any you could get anywhere else, make it my worth the trip!
The first time I went into Granny Ds I had no idea what to expect. We sat down and ordered as we normally would, pancakes, bacon, eggs and hash browns, the whole nine yards. But, you should have seen the looks on our faces as we saw the group of policemen sitting at the table next to us when they received their food. I have NEVER seen pancakes that big!
The officer was so shocked at what had just been put in front of him, all he could say was, I ordered a short stack. Well, most people know short stacks consist of three pancakes. I’m sure for a man of his size; a normal short stack would be no problem to take down, but this was no normal short stack. These pancakes cover a plate big enough to fit a full, medium sized, thanksgiving turkey, and this man just ordered three.
I have never seen a grown man eat so little of his plate, he barely got a full pizza slice out of these three giant pancakes in front of him before he threw in the towel. Luckily we only ordered one each but as we soon figured out we only needed one for all three of us. Thankfully these pancakes are good the next morning, or if you are like me, they only last till that night’s dinner.

The second time we went we knew what we were getting ourselves into so we skipped breakfast to save up room and got there right in time for them to put out the buffet. Yes, that’s right this place could not get any better.
Every weekday during lunch they have a small all-you-can eat buffet, with a different meal each day, catfish, chicken pot pie and many more. The day we went was chicken pot pie day, but only one of us was willing to give up the pancakes. The chicken, peas and carrots all covered in a rich and creamy white gravy under a thin layer of crust, served with cornbread rolls, fries and rice casserole and don’t forget dessert. This buffet might be small, but it is mighty and they always have dessert and on this day it was a delicate peach cobbler.
The only downside to Granny Ds would have to be how loved it is, there is usually a line sometimes small but most of the time, especially on weekends, is long and can have a very long waiting time. But it is all worth it once inside where you get greeted by smiling, friendly faces and amazing food that will keep you full for hours to come. Where better to get a meal before a long day on Canyon lake then at Granny Ds.
