Government Canyon is Now Open!

It is OPEN, but limitations, of course. Face coverings are required and they are not renting or loaning out any equipment. It is HOT so beware of heat exhaustion.

Most of the 40 miles of trails are open and the hours are varied so call ahead… 210-688-9055.

Open only Friday-Monday for day visitors now and camping available Friday and Saturday. They have 23 walk-in tent sites and 2 walk-in group sites that accommodates up to 16 people.

It is strongly recommended you make reservations at texasstateparks.gov or call 512-389-8900

Things to do at Government Canyon!

DINOSAUR TRACKS! Yes the only tracks found in Bexar county are here, from 110 million years ago. Take the Joe Johnston Trail to see them. This is a 4.45 mile trail but the as you can see on the map the tracks are not at the end of the trail. The Zizelmann House is not much further passed the tracks so you can see both!

The is a natural playscape for the kids made with rocks and wood. And do not forget your camera because there is plenty of nature and pictures to be taken! Join a program or guided hike if do not want to go at it alone.

Geocaching is also here so when you are exploring the beautiful outdoors and keep keep your eyes peeled! Hidden treasures are ready to be hunted.
